Concept Space
About

A periodic table for ideas.

Concept Space is a periodic table for ideas. You define the axes that matter (user scale, tone, market segment, AI role, theoretical premise, whatever shape your decisions take) and map your ideas against them. The grid shows where you cluster, where you don't, and the dashed cells are gaps where nothing yet lives. Click one and the model proposes a candidate that fits.

The Returners' Wake
A widowed ferry pilot hears voices in the swell that match a half-finished sea-shanty. Each verse pulls another lost vessel back toward shore, and her dead husband's name a little closer to the chorus.

A toy view: tone across the top, setting down the side. Each dot is an idea that already lives at that coordinate. The dashed cells are gaps the tool surfaces. Pick one and the card shows the kind of candidate the model proposes.

01 · PremiseWhy "concept space"

Brainstorming treats ideas as a list. Concept space treats them as coordinates.

When you list ideas, two of them might look distinct on paper but live an inch apart in the space that matters: same audience, same data sensitivity, same delivery mode. When you plot them as coordinates, you can see overlap and emptiness directly. You stop guessing what's missing and start reading it off the grid.

02 · MechanicsHow it works

01

Pick your axes

Start with a Lotlsoft taxonomy (software portfolio, fiction premises, SaaS strategy, feature roadmap, market landscape, creative practice) or define your own. Two axes for the basic grid. More if you want to slice.

02

Map your ideas

Tag each idea - a character, product, story, artwork, plan - with a coordinate on every axis. The morphological grid renders one row × column at a time.

03

Read the gaps

Empty cells get dashed borders. The tool surfaces clusters that look saturated and isolations that look strategic.

04

Generate

Click a gap. The model proposes a candidate that fits the coordinate, drawing tension from neighbouring ideas. Mapping is always free; unlimited AI generation needs a pass, and every new account gets a 3-day trial plus two free generations a day after it.

03 · FoundationsThe theory

Three pieces of formal innovation theory underpin the tool, none of them new.

1969

Zwicky · Morphological analysis

List the dimensions of a problem and enumerate every combination. Most are nonsense; the survivors are candidate solutions.

1984

Altshuller · TRIZ

Innovation is contradiction resolution: features in tension that the solver finds a way to hold simultaneously.

2000

Gärdenfors · Conceptual spaces

Concepts have geometry. Distance and direction in concept space are real, measurable, and useful.

Together they give you a way to reason about an idea space instead of brainstorming into it.

04 · BoundariesWhat it isn't

Concept Space isn't a roadmap tool, a competitor tracker, or market research. It doesn't tell you what to build next quarter or what your users are searching for. It tells you the shape of the territory you're already standing in, and where the empty rooms are.

05 · AudienceWho it's for

Founders deciding what to build next. Studios spotting when their portfolio has converged. Writers mapping where a body of work actually sits. Researchers wanting a structural view of a literature. Strategists looking for whitespace in a market. Anyone whose work lives in a space rather than a list.

06 · Made byLotlsoft

Concept Space is domain-agnostic: founders, teams, studios, writers, researchers, anyone whose work has more than one axis. Use a starter taxonomy or build your own. No third-party trackers. No advertising cookies. Your data, your ownership.
